In an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Sir John Sawers said that the airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria that killed senior Iranian commanders was an attempt to 'undermine that line of control between Tehran and the so-called proxy militias' such as Hezbollah.
